How Color Influences Your Life

Color is the spice of life. It is what fills in the dull and faded shadows of existence, giving them vibrancy, energy, and passion. Without color life would be dull and listless, art would be a bore, and the world would be a less dimensional and exciting place.

The colors around us also make up a large portion of the atmosphere of an environment. They are like a secret code, with each color symbolizing a different emotion, and all of them working together to create a subtle blanket of ambiance in a space. The more you understand about the meaning of these colors, the more you will know about any given environment, and the way people will react to the space.

In general red is the most volatile color. It is the color of fire, blood, and the symbol of war in many cultures. Red is an inflaming tone that can make your heart race and your metabolism rise. It is also the color of steamy passionate romances.

Green is a much softer tone that tends to evoke symbols of nature, and life. Green is the color of the trees, of the grass, and of the natural world. It is also a symbol of recycling, and of environmentally friendly actions.

Blue is the calmest color in the spectrum. It invokes thoughts of the great depths of the ocean, as the waves languidly wash against the shore. However, a dark blue can be calm to the point of being gloomy.

In general brown, and tan colors, are known as earth tones. These rustic colors make people think of earth and caves, and can serve to comfort and cradle you within a space. They also evoke a distinctly wooded feel that can be invigorating, even as it is stolid.

You will almost never see a room, or a location, that is completely one color. That would be almost as dull as a plain white room. The power of color comes from combining them in creative or playful ways. Contrast, compliment, and the flow of the colors are what really make the individual tones powerful.

However while you can single out individual colors and get a decent idea for how the tone will effect people, when you take the sum total of the various multitude of colors in a space altogether, it becomes nearly impossible to interpret the meaning of the space. However, you will almost always be able to pick out the one or two primary colors. These are the tones which will set the pace for the entire environment, with other colors acting in complimentary functions.

Color is an important part of our lives. It gives the world energy and interest, and makes life a much richer experience. It also affects the way we act, and think, influencing people in subtle yet powerful ways. The various constituent colors in a space combine to create a complex atmosphere, with each tone adding its own symbolic chord to the harmony.
