Online Games Sponsored by Political Organizations?

If you live outside of Europe, you might not know what I am going to tell you about. However, even if you live in Europe, you might also not know about this if you do not play online games. Anyway, I would like to share with you something very interesting. If you visit the main site of the online MMORPG Cabal Online Europe, you will see on the home page an icon representing the European Union, and the information that this project is partly financed by this political organization. I find it quite surprising, as I never would have I expected organizations like this to support online games. I would rather expect them to support educational endeavors like, for example, libraries.

I am glad that some people change their views on online games and do not see them as harmful anymore. Generally speaking, in most cases those people who are against computer games have never played them before, and therefore might not understand what games are all about. The era of playing online games started only around 10 years ago, and we can see such games gaining a lot on popularity throughout this time. No wonder that many people still do not know what an MMORPG is, as online games are just emerging.

Protecting your Documents

If your computer crashes from time to time due to unforeseen circumstances, and you write in Microsoft Word a lot, you might want to protect your work from being lost. You can set up your Word to save your document automatically after a certain amount of time elapses. That way you will be able to work normally even if you experience electricity shortcuts, viruses, or other surprises. You can set up your Word to save your documents automatically by following these easy steps:
1. Go to Tools menu and choose here Options.
2. Now the window will pop up with many tabs to choose. Choose the Save tab.
3. Check the option “Always create backup copy” to allow creating additional copy of your document with extension .wbk.
4. Check the “Save AutoRecover info” and set the number of minutes after which you would like your Word to save your documents automatically.
5. Press OK to finish the process.
Writing documents is hard work, so I think that it is quite apparent why you would want to protect your documents. Allowing Word to save your documents automatically, and making regular backups, should be enough to guarantee that your hard work will not be lost.

Universal Serial Bus

Generally speaking, USB is a very useful serial bus, as it allows devices to be connected to the computer while it is running. The data transfer rates are also very fast, especially USB 2. Older serial buses required you to restart your computer, connect the device and power it up again. I am pretty sure that the plug-and-play capabilities of USB made it so popular. These days most devices such as cameras, keyboards, mouses, scanners, camcoders, printers and USB drives require you to connect them to the USB port. Most computers have at least 2 USB ports, but many newer ones have 6 or even more, because there are thousands of devices which you may connect and USB has truly become a universal port.

Is Your Computer Guilty?

Computers are generally viewed as very complicated machines. This includes all aspects related to hardware and software. It is sometimes hard to predict how a computer will react, especially when it comes to software. I have been reading about cases of people who were falsely accused of things which their computer did, not them. There is a story of a person who was ruined after pornography was found on his computer. Eventually, he won a case and proved that his laptop was infected with spyware and malware which were downloading pornography. He wasn’t even aware of it, but unfortunately got accused. It is a fact that a large amount of personal computers are infected with various types of malware. My conclusion is that you should be careful with your accusations in general, but also particularly when dealing with technology issues.

Allow Your PC to Hibernate

Every PC that has Windows XP installed, is allowed to hibernate. You can compare it to the way the plants in winter hibernate. They do not suspend all operations completely, but they use a lot less energy to live. The same can happen with computers. They do not suspend all operations completely, but they use a lot less energy as they only use enough to keep the computer powered on. I usually have my PC running most of the time during the day, and if for some reason I decide to go outside, I set it for hibernating. By doing so, I do not have to close all the important documents that I have opened. I just leave my house, when the PC is in the hibernation mode, and when I come back, I put it in a normal mode again. By doing so, I save power, and my computer components will last longer, as they will get used up a lot more slowly. Hibernation is one of my favorite features in Windows XP, and I think it is a lot more useful than screensavers. That is because screensavers do not really save a lot of power, but simply look pretty.

Working in Windows Without a Mouse

Working in Windows has always been associated with using a mouse. Did you know that you can actually do quite a lot of things in Windows by using only your keyboard? After switching your computer on, you can initialize the Start menu by simply pressing Windows button that is usually located at the bottom left corner of your keyboard. You can also choose the program that you open without using a mouse. Just use arrow keys to move up and down, and when the program that you want to open is highlighted press Enter.

Once you are in a program like Microsoft Word or PowerPoint you can hold Alt key to access the menu bar. To access file options, press Alt+F, to access Edit options, press Alt+E. This should be enough to keep you going for some time in your Word document. In newer versions of Word if you press Alt, you will see the number and letters highlighted that will enable you to access each command in this document. Some users claim that using such shortcuts saves them time, and can be a good idea for those who access particular programs often.

Not mentioning whenever your mouse will be malfunctioning, you won’t be as helpless as you would be otherwise, without knowing important shortcuts. You don’t always have to use them, but you are definitely going to have satisfaction from knowing about them.

What Tools To Use For Cleaning a PC

The choice when it comes to cleaning your PC is very broad, and it is up to your imagination how you will eventually clean your device. However, there are a few common tools that people tend to make use of while maintaining their computer. While there are many cleaning products in the market, I recommend that you make up your mind on your own whether you want to use them or not.

1. Cloth - the most simple and the most useful tool here. Use it whether it is dry or dampened. Avoid using dampened cloth inside of your computer. It is only safe on the outside.
2. Paper towel or toilet paper - also one of the most common tools to use. Use it after you have polished the surface of your PC with a dampened cloth or safely use it to remove dust inside your computer.

Take care of your computer and it will serve you a long time.

Voice Recognition

When it comes to voice recognition, the technology is still not perfect, as recognizing speech is a very complicated process. The computer often has to process what the speaker is saying in real-time, which makes it even more difficult. There are many programs which were designed to recognize speech, but this time I would like discuss one which is completely free, if you have a Windows operating system and Microsoft Office. Microsoft Windows XP has this interesting feature that enables to convert your speech into text files. All you need to do to use this program is to install it properly. In order to install it, follow these steps:
1. Go to Start button, the press Control Panel and then Add or Remove Programs.
2. Now look for Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage and then click on Change button.
3. Next, select the option Add or Remove Features. After this press Next.
4. Your next step will be to follow this path: Office Shared Features–> Alternative User Input–> Speech? Run from My Computer? Update.
5. The program will take some time now to install the program.
6. After the installation is finished, go to your Word document, Tools for the upper menu bar and select Speech.
7. Complete the training by following steps given by the program.
I have to warn you that this feature does not work as well as it could, so there is still some room for progress, but nonetheless, it can be a useful tool.

Traditional Candles?

I remember the period of my life when I used to buy a lot of candles. I enjoyed their smell and the mood they were creating. Today, I still use them from time to time when an appropriate time comes and enjoy it a lot. However, there are many substitutes for traditional candles that give an impression of a regular candle. For example, you can buy a led candle which really looks like a real candle, but is powered by batteries and does not produce any heat. You can have a candle on your screen saver, but will it be really the same? There is nothing like the real smell of candles, whether it be forest, banana, lemon, or strawberry. It is a pleasure to feel the warmth emanating from them. I am happy that technology invents new ways to imitate candles, but I am pretty sure that many people will stick to traditional ones for now. As long as regular candles are not very expensive, they are going to keep buying them. I believe that technology improves the quality of our life, but it will be still some time before the smell of the forest will be coming from virtual candles.

Internet and the English Language

It is not a secret that more and more people around the world use English as their second language. You do not have to be a statistic expert to know and see that. English is currently the most widely used language on the Internet as well, and recently even Asian internet users use it on a large scale. The Internet and its popularity have largely contributed to the broad use of English. People for hundreds of years have been looking for ways to communicate with each other, but could never find a way to do it. Not until now. Knowledge of English is also essential if you want to work online. Not knowing English in an English speaking world can be a huge disadvantage. The good news is that you can choose whether you want to learn English or not, as there are a lot more places offering English courses. It is really great to see the world coming together in unity, and Internet is a prime example of that. The opponents of Internet may not fully realize how much Internet has changed the world. It is easy to have friends from all over the world, or even meet your second half on the Internet.

Best Way to Use Your Mouse

Your mouse has a few buttons that can come in handy in many moments. There are a few functions that your mouse buttons are designed for and let me here describe them briefly for you:

• Left mouse button. Whenever you press your left mouse button, Windows captures this and takes action depending what is hidden under the cursor. It will usually select graphical objects such as buttons and icons. If you hold left mouse button and move it at the same time you will be able to select more than one item in Windows. Additionally this combination is used to draw one item unto another item.
• Right mouse button. Whenever you press right mouse button it will force a menu to appear. This small menu usually contains list of commands that are associated with the object that you right clicked.
If you are new to computers you might find this quite confusing, but using your mouse is like driving a car: after some time you won’t even have to think about what you are doing.

When it comes to mouses, I suggest buying one which has a clickable scroll wheel button, as it will help you a lot in the long run.

Get Rid of Your Calculator

One of the nicest features of computers is that they replace many other devices like calculators, CD players, game consoles, or even alarm clocks. If you have a computer you can get rid of other equipment that takes more space and costs more money. Computers with Windows Operating system have its own simple calculator installed for you to perform your own calculations sing it. To locate it on your PC follow these steps:

1. Go to Start menu and then find Programs.

2. Here look for Accessories and select Calculator.

3. Calculator window box will appear. It is all you need to do to locate your calculator. Use the mouse or number from the right side of your keyboard to conduct the operations on it.

I use this tool from time to time, as it is a lot more convenient to do so on your own computer, compared to searching for a regular calculator in all of your drawers. Of course, you don’t have to get rid of your regular calculator, but keep in mind that a computer can replace many devices, and the more you learn about computers, the more you will be amazed with what they can do.

Energy

Gas and electricity are two sources of energy, which can be used to power up our cars. Well, maybe not exactly, but who knows. It might be that due to gas crisis in North America, cars fueled by electricity are a future after all. America does not have the largest supply of oil and gas in the world. On the other hand, it has a quite large demand for oil and gas. This is where the conflict starts. Americans depend on countries, which can provide them with fuel. All is due to the fact, that American cars use gas, which at some point of time became more expensive for people in the United States.

I think that a change from gas fueled cars to electricity cars might not be easy, but it is possible. After all, Americans have been using fuel, and not electricity, from the very beginning of the history of cars in the United States. They cannot just start manufacturing cars powered by electricity one day, and get rid of all of them that still use fuel. Anyway, this is just an idea. Hope somebody will make use of that at some point it time. For now, we will probably have to stick with gas, but the future will show us if electricity cars will replace gas fueled cars.
